I removed the flickr viewer on the right side panel and replaced it with a tag cloud. I’ve seen a few of these around at various websites and have yet to find them interesting or useful. It is especially un-useful for this blog since there is so little stuff on here. I have tagged my posts but there are so few tags that the tag cloud is bit misleading if you think it accurately refects the content.

On a different note, here is a TagCloud from johnmccain.com created at TagCrowd:

And now here is one generated from barackobama.com:

From these results I would predict that obamas index page is a landing page from which you have to navigate to get more information. McCain must have some sort of content or statement on his home page.

Could be an interesting tool for comparative analyses along these lines.

Neat idea. I can see how it would be useful in an environment where different people are doing some research and wanted to maintain a set of community bookmarks. Or if you had a research assistant working remotely, they could prepare a set of bookmarks that you could access later from your computer. From a teaching perspective, if you wanted the students to all peruse a set of links you provided, this would be a good tool.

Cool eh? Yeah but since I’ve installed it I haven’t used it once and its principal contribution to my productivity seems to have been to reduce it and to annoy me by taking up space on my toolbar showing me things I already had bookmarked and placed on my links bar. Maybe someday I’ll figure out how it can make my life easier and more fun.
